The Delhi Labour Welfare Board has started training of third batch in short term self-help employment courses at Titiksha Public School, Sector-11, Rohini. Delhi Labour Minister Shri Deep Chand Bandhu today inaugurated the courses by lighting the lamp. On this occasion, Shri Sukhbir Sharma, Chairman, Delhi Labour Welfare Board, Shri S. P. Marwah, Labour Commissioner, Shri Rajender Dhar, Welfare Commissioner, Members of the Board and thousands of workers and trainees were present.
Shri Sukhbir Sharma, on this occasion, said that out of 49 short term self-help employment courses, 17 courses are selected in which training will be imparted. Some of them are -Rangoli, Embroidary / Jardoji, Nib painting, Flower making, Jewellary making, Candle making, Agarbatti making, Mehandi, Detergent liquid, Dry-cleaning, Soft Toys, Screen printing, Tailoring and Bag making, Beautician etc. Out of these courses, advance training in five courses namely -Beautician, Screen Printing, Soft toys, Cutting and Tailoring and Bag making would be starting at Nimri Colony Welfare Centre (Ashok Vihar-IV) and training in remaining courses will be imparting at Titiksha Public School, Sector-11 1 Ronihi, Delhi. The first and second batch of these courses successful completed at Panchkuian Road and Nimri Colony, he added. Shri Sharma said that almost 400 trainees got registered themselves for training in short-term courses and 200 trainees in long-term courses. The response till now has been overwhelming. More than 700 have already been trained. The Board hopes to be able to train more than 5000 persons by the end of March-2003.
The Chairman further told that in spite of its limited resources, the Delhi Labour Welfare Board has been functioning very well and there is a plan to start these short term self-help employment courses in all its nine labour welfare centres in Delhi, so that the unemployed youths of workers can learn and increase their family income. Shri Sharma also informed that free legal aid centre (Lok Adalat) is already working at Nimri colony, Ashok Vihar-IV and many poor workers have got benefited through Lok adalats.
Shri Deep Chand Bandhu said that under the chairmanship of Shri Sukhbir Sharma, the Delhi Labour Welfare Board has been going in aright direction since its constitution. He said that the message that these courses are beneficial to the extent that every beneficiary can arrange self-employment for himself / herself without having to depend upon others for any kind of help, has seems to have reached every corner of Delhi. He appealed to the youths to get benefit from these courses and raise their family income. He also directed the Labour Department to provide adequate help in the functioning of the Board.
Shri S. P. Marwah, Labour Commissioner and Shri Rajender Dhar, Welfare Commissioner also expressed their views and they appraised the working of the Board.
